HINGE
TYPEFACE DESIGN
OVERVIEW
Hinge is a 2D/3D typeface made from brass. Each letter is fixed to both the door and door frame. To function as a hinge they are designed around a central binding. As the door moves from closed to open; the letters change from a condensed through to an extended typeface. The massage created with hinges are "There is Always Tomorrow"

CHALLENGE:
This is my personal typography project. Within two weeks, a life-size door and frames with 21 pieces of 3Inch hinges was created. The door has to be opened at a 180 degree angle to show the letter perspective. Worked hard to figure out a method to engineer a way to both stand the door and keep the design concept and typography structures intact.

DESIGN PROCESS:
Created the idea of letter design out of hinges. I simulated the latter shapes and ideas in illustrator and print them out. I created the letter OPEN in small size hinges with a Jewelry saw and two pieces of wood. Then research about the way to make this project in life with a real door. Based on the mockup a life-size door was created.
